What We Think
In its last model year before a planned restyling, the 2012 Kia Sorento still packs a lot of equipment and decent style for the price.
As with most Kia models, the 2012 Sorento compact utility vehicle appeals to shoppers more concerned about value for the dollar than with brand names. With the possible exception of its somewhat cut-rate interior, the Sorento packs a lot of equipment in a well-priced package.
The Kia Sorento comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine connected to a six-speed manual transmission. That combination returns 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Buyers can upgrade to the V6 engine that returns 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. A six-speed automatic transmission is optional. The Sorrento is available with two- or four-wheel drive.
Standard convenience features include air conditioning, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, satellite-radio capability, MP3 connectivity, Bluetooth wireless technology and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.
