MINI Cooper Clubman
Key Takeaways
- Great power in John Cooper Works edition
- Not as quick as a hardtop, but still a lot of fun
- Extra space is welcome, as are swing-open rear doors
What We Think
An extra door and a few extra cubic feet make the Mini less so, but the Cooper Clubman drives like a slightly larger car too.
The 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman gets the same engine as the basic Mini Cooper--a 1.6-liter four-cylinder. In base trim, it produces 121 hp, and in the S model, power increases to 181 hp. A six-speed manual is standard; six-speed automatics are optional. The John Cooper Works package increases power output to 208 hp and torque to 207 lb-ft. The Clubman will carry 33 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded down. Standard features include toggle-switch instrument control, keyless entry and ignition, a climate-controlled glovebox and speed-sensitive windshield wipers. Bluetooth is optional, as are a USB/iPod adapter and premium audio, satellite radio and navigation.
